All About the Base: New Foundation Favorites

Hey there, lovelies!

Perfecting my skin is my favorite step of my everyday makeup routine.  I don’t typically take a lot of time on my makeup in the morning.  I’m usually half asleep and too lazy to really care what I look like.  I can’t function until I’ve had my coffee.  Since I am always running low on energy in the mornings, I like to keep things natural and just focus most my time on my foundation, perfecting any problems that I am currently having. Since I love perfecting my skin so much, I enjoy finding new products that help me out.   As you may have guessed, these new foundation-perfecting discoveries are the reason we gather here today, in my corner of the internet. 🙂  I shall now tell you all about their amazing makeup base perfecting abilities.

  1. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water – This stuff makes my foundation look flawless. FLAW-LESS.  It is very hydrating, so it’s perfect for those dry skin days.  If you have trouble with flaky, dry skin, I would definitely recommend this.  Not only can you use it before your makeup, but also afterwards to lock everything in and give your skin a nice glow!  If my makeup is every looking cake-y this product saves the day and smoothes everything out.  Not only that, but it increases the wear of my makeup for at least 2-3+ hours more than usual.
  2. 2B Primer Makeup Base – This primer makes my makeup last all day!  I can get a good 8-9  hour use out of it, which is especially amazing considering its price!  Normally all 2B products are half off, so I’ve never seen this primer go above $4.95.  Not only is it affordable, but it also isn’t made with silicone, which means it won’t break you out.  It is lightweight and has a slight fresh scent to it.  It claims to be slightly mattifying.  Overall, it leaves my skin with a satin finish, not too far on the matte side of things.
  3. M.A.C. Studio Face and Body Foundation – I am OBSESSED with this product.  This foundation has a slight glow to the finish, but it never gets to the point of making me look like a disco ball. When I just want a bit of coverage, I can use a tiny amount of this and it gives the perfect sheer finish.  It can also be built up to more of a medium/full coverage depending on how much you put on.  I like to use my Zoeva 102 Silk Finish brush when applying this.  If you want a natural foundation, I can’t recommend MAC face and body enough!
  4. 2B Waterproof Concealer – This is another one of my new favorites from 2B Cosmetics.  Their concealer correcting waterproof stick in the shade peach is perfect for my under eye area.  Since it has a peach tint, it helps to remove my dark circles.  It’s great on any zits that I have as well.  One tip I would give is to not apply too much under your eyes since it may crease a bit.  With that said, I still think it’s an amazing product and I’ve never seen this go above $3.99, so it’s definitely a steal!
  5. Makeup Forever HD Pressed Powder – No other powder has been able to make my pores look as invisible as this one.  I am in love with MUFE’s Pressed Powder since it makes my skin look extremely smooth and never lets my under eye area crease.  Since my T-zone is constantly oily, this powder is constantly saving my life… or at least my makeup from smudging all over the place.

Thank you so much for reading!  Are there any other makeup base essentials out there that I need to discover?

Hanna

DIY Memory Jars

Hey there, beauties!

Happy New Year’s Eve!  Can you believe we’re only a few hours away from 2016?! I cannot wait to see all of the amazing things that this year will bring!  The DIY I’ll be showing you today is the perfect way to save those memories in a jar so you will never forget them!  In my opinion, it is a little like a scrapbook except way quicker and simpler to make.  On top of being insanely easy to make, this craft is the perfect gift for anyone you know who cherishes their memories, too!

These jars are meant to be stuffed with any kinds of ticket stubs or even little papers you have written on with the date and the adventures you had that day.  I have kept a memory jars for two years now and you’d be surprised how quickly they fill up!  I love looking back on all of the fun times! I hope you all enjoy this craft as much as I do… Let’s begin!

IMG_3689

What you’ll need:

  • A jar (The bigger the better -that way, you won’t run out of space!)
  • Paper or labels
  • A hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Stickers
  • Letters
  • Ribbon, string or twine
  • Washi tape (optional, but super cute!)
  • Memories, of course! 😉

IMG_3166

With this DIY, how you decorate the jar is completely up to you, so there aren’t any specific steps to take.  If you wanted, you could even leave the jar plain, but I’ll show you how I decided to decorate mine!

I started by cutting some cute paper so that my jar had a label on the front.  I then stuck some of my letter stickers onto that paper and hot glued the pieces together.

IMG_3186

I then hot glued those pieces onto my jar, gluing in sections so that it  didn’t dry before I could stick the paper down.

IMG_3197

After that, I realized my paper was a bit short, so I decorated the sides with some sparkly washi tape that I’m obsessed with.  You can find adorable washi tape everywhere -keep your eyes peeled for it on the Target dollar aisle, because they always have really cute, cheap ones!  In fact, I found a lot of my decorations there, including my letter stickers!

IMG_3199

I then decided my jar needed the year on it, so I hot glued the 2016 onto the front.

IMG_3203

Of course, I had to also add a bow! I just tied some twine around the neck of the jar and hot glued it in place so it won’t be twisted at weird angles.

As for my next jar, the steps are pretty similar, I just hot glued all of the pieces on and used some different colors of washi tap over the label and also the lid.  I decided to switch things up a bit and add the stickers onto the lid of the jar.  I recommend hot gouging them down if you decide to do this so that they won’t come off when you open it to put your memories in.

To show the different ways you can fill these jars, I put some folded pieces of scrapbook paper in one jar and filled the other with all kinds of tickets that I’ve collected. If you’re an over achiever, you can use both papers and tickets in your jar!

IMG_3733IMG_3719 (1)IMG_3731IMG_3730IMG_3661IMG_3697

And that, ladies and gents, is the finished project. I hope that you enjoyed and maybe try this project out yourself!  I think this is a great idea and super fun to look back on later in life!  I can’t wait for all the memories i’ll fill my jar up with this year!

New Year’s Resolution Templates + Tips for Achieving your Goals

Hey there, lovelies!

The New Year is almost upon us… that means it’s time to break out the confetti and storm up some goals you’d like to achieve in the coming 12 months!  It isn’t just New Year that calls for goal-making and determination, but instead these tips can always be used since there is no time like the present!  I know, resolutions can be a bit terrifying since they have a bad rep for never coming true, but I have a few tips that will help those wishes become reality along with templates I’ve created for those New Year plans.  🙂

IMG_3751

Since making specific and planned out resolutions is super important, I’ve created some free, printable templates that can help you to achieve your goals!

Just click on the links below the templates to print!

2016 Resolutions

I’ll definitely be filling this list out to hang on my wall as a reminder this year!

Goals-2

Remember, you don’t have to fill the whole thing up!  That would be a huge amount of resolutions… BUT just in case you’re feeling extra confident, I made sure to add lots of extra space for personalized goals and plans!

As I said before, resolutions are known for being difficult and never coming true, BUT it is possible to achieve them!  Here’s a few things that help:

  1. Make your goals specific.  Add details to loose goals, such as “I will go to the gym 2 times every week” instead of “I will be more active”.
  2. Make your goals attainable.  For example, try aiming for losing a reasonable amount of weight instead of a huge number that would be unattainable.  Impossible goals are discouraging and make it difficult to succeed.
  3. Try making smaller goals or “checkpoints” leading up to your main resolution.  This will help remind you how far you’ve come and keep your spirits up instead of dwelling on how far you may still have to go.
  4. This may seem obvious, but make sure to write down your goals!  Engrain them in your memory or even write them on your calendar.  Add them into your planner if you need reminders!  Also, you can compile a list of the things you’d like to accomplish and hang it on your wall or put it in a place you’ll look every day!
  5. Be prepared!  For example, if your goal is to eat healthy, make sure you have enough healthy options around to keep you on track!
  6. Lastly, don’t get discouraged if you don’t succeed immediately!  No one is perfect -just keep at it!  The only way to ever achieve accomplishments is by hardwork and a LOT of practice.

I always love writing out my new plans on New Year’s Eve!  My family likes to get into it, too.  Our tradition is to each write our goals on pieces of paper, stick them in a jar, and try to achieve them all by next New Year’s Eve when were dig the jar out again!  Then, we get to check off everything we accomplished… or write down the things that we didn’t on another piece of paper and try again!

This year, I’m aiming to spend more time on my blog and spread lots of positivity!  I’d also like a bit more confidence!  In the image below, I’ve compiled a list of a few more goals that I will definitely be aiming for in the New Year.  These goals aren’t specific, but I think that if my year consists of all these things, it will be a very successful one!  I’d love to hear some of your New Year resolutions in the comments below!

Resolutions Pin-2

I know, everyone always says this, but the year has whizzed by so quickly that I honestly can’t comprehend that 2016 is a few short days away! I know it will bring lots of good things and I can’t wait for all the new adventures that come!   I wish you nothing but the best in the following year!  Thanks so much for reading!  Good luck on your goals for 2016 and have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hanna

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor: My New Drugstore Obsession

*Pssst, have you entered my giveaway?!*

Hey there, beauties!

Long time no blog! I have missed you so all much, but now that the hectic part of December is over, I am back to posting regularly! *whoop!*  I am so excited, because today, I am reviewing a product that has quickly become  HOLY GRAIL for me. *Drum roll* Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor!

IMG_2028

At first sight, I knew that I needed these babies in my life and I am in love with everything about them from the packaging to the formula… even the scent smells like heaven!  Let’s jump into the review!

First off… THE PACKAGING.  Let’s all just take a moment to stand in awe of all of its beauty.  These tubes are glass with in a matte finish.  They feel like a very durable high end product and I absolutely love the way that they look.  My only complaint is that the shade number and name are not displayed anywhere except for tiny print on the sticker, which has to be removed in order to open the bottle.

The formula is super pigmented and very moisturizing.  I was surprised when I first tried these out by the fact that these are nothing like liquid lipstick.  Instead, they are a gloss that really stays put and has no shine.  I’m not exactly sure that this glorious creation could fit into one category.  If lipgloss and liquid lipstick had a baby, it would be this product.

Since they aren’t as matte as a liquid lipstick, they smudge off a bit when eating or drinking, but they leave behind some color and never completely disappear.  On top of staying put forEVER and never getting stuck on my teeth, these glosses smell like fruity deliciousness and make me wish that I could eat an entire tube of the stuff.  It sounds gross, but smell this gloss and you’ll probably be wishing the same thing!

These Lipcolors are $8.50 a piece, which makes them a bit on the pricier side for a drugstore product… but they are so high quality that I think they are worth every penny!  In my opinion, these glosses are better quality and look much more flattering on me than most high end lipsticks.  I tend to shy away from bright lips, but with THESE, my lips actually don’t look dry or cracked for once in my life.  Also, the applicator makes them extremely easy to have a nice, clean edge.

Now for the swatching! *squeel*

Firstly, 610 HD Addiction is a gorgeous deep plum shade.  I love how it has a whitening effect on my teeth instead of making them look yellow as some brighter colors can.  Even though this shade is pigmented, it is not in your face and you don’t have to worry about it ever getting on your teeth or smudging!

IMG_2038IMG_4415610 HD Addiction Revlon

625 HD Love is even more vibrant than the previous shade.  Somehow, I am absolutely obsessed with this color even though I usually am terrified or orange-y reds.  This color doesn’t make my teeth look yellow and it actually doesn’t seem too overpowering.  I highly recommend this for the season of red lips and Christmas vibes!

625 hd love revlon625 hd love revlon625 hd love revlon

615 HD Temptation is your perfect everyday pink shade.  It seems to me like it would be a very universally flattering tone for everyone.  I think this shade is a great pick if you want a natural pink lip product for every day wear that won’t rub off and is super moisturizing!

615 hd temptation revlonIMG_4433615 hd temptation revlon

Lastly, we have 630 HD Seduction.  I had to try out a nude shade since they’re my favorite!  I have never before bought a product that matched the natural color of my lips SO perfectly!  It enhances the look of my lips but doesn’t even look like I’m wearing anything.  I’ve been dreaming about finding a product like this for my entire life up to this moment.  That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I am extremely excited about my discovery!  I now wear this product every day. I recommend it so highly!

Thanks so much for reading!  I hope that this post had been helpful to you!  Have you tried out this product?  What are your thoughts?

5 affordable blushes

Blush on a Budget: 5 Drugstore Faves

Hey there, lovelies!

It’s a fact that buying new makeup goodies is one of the most fun things on the entire planet.  However, if I bought Estée Lauder products every time I went on a beauty spree, I would be very, very broke.  Thankfully, the drugstore is the perfect solution to that problem and I’ve discovered 5 great blushes that will save your wallet!  These affordable products especially come in handy during this season of gift buying and money spending!  I hope that this post might help you find a new drugstore treasure to try out in this bunch of blushes!

5 affordable blushes5 drugstore blushes

  1. NYX Powder Blush– I’m a huge fan of NYX since they are super affordable and I am always impressed by the quality!  You really can’t beat the price of their amazing pressed powder blushes at only $4.99!    This shade is s gorgeous matte pink.  It is long-lasting and very pigmented.  You have to have a light hand with this one, but the shade is super gorgeous as long as you don’t go too ham on it! NYX Powder Blush Dusty RoseNYX Powder Blush Dusty Rose
  2. Mivagirl Blush #05** – Unlike the previous blush, this one is baked and has a beautiful shimmer to it.  I’m obsessed with this lighter pink shade!  Even though it may seem like too bright of a pink, it actually adds a really natural looking glow.  I use a light wash of this over my cheeks so it’s not too overpowering.  The best part about the slight shimmer of this product is that it has a built in highlight!  For just $3.99, this blush is a TOTAL steal!  With Black Friday deals this weekend, this blush is practically going to be free!  If you’d like to, you can even use my code: HANNH10 for 10% off.   I can’t wait to try out more shades!

3.  Maybelline Fit Me Blush 306 Deep Coral – Although I’ve heard a multitude of mixed feelings from others about Maybelline’s Fit Me blushes, I really like the formula.  They are described as natural and sheer on the website, which they very much are.  However, I really like natural cheek products since I’m not huge on super bright blushes.  With this blush, I don’t have to worry about going overboard.  It gives me a slight glow and coral tint to my cheeks, which I absolutely love!  If you are into natural blushes, I strongly recommend giving this one a go!

4. Milani Baked Blush 02 Rose D’oro – This gorgeous rose gold blush is one of my favorites… even over high end products!  It has the most beautiful gold shimmer and is the perfect rose/coral shade.  Make sure you use a light hand with this one though, because let me tell you girl, it is PIG-MENT-ED.  I can’t get over how much I love this shade and I recommend it to all you glowy rose blush lovers out there!

5.  Covergirl  185 True Plum – Last, but definitely not least, we have Covergirl’s gorgeous plum blush.  This blush is another natural option, but slightly more pigmented that Maybelline’s. It has the most natural and amazing glow. I constantly find myself reaching for this shade in the cooler months since I am drawn to plum shades this time of the year!  This product adds just the right amount of color and I can’t get enough of it!

Cozy Cable-Knit: A Fall to Winter OOTD

Hey there, loves!

The season of twinkly lights and coziness is upon us!   That means it’s time to break out those chunky sweaters and warm jackets!  I absolutely love all things about fall and winter.  In my opinion, this time of year is the best by far.  The Christmas decorations are already up in my house and I am listening to festive music at this very moment.   Of course, I had to include my merry Starbucks coffee that I was sipping while taking these cozy photos -it was keeping me warm in the freezing weather!

IMG_2175

Today, I’m rocking a super cute and comfy outfit to get into the holiday mood, including some clothing pieces that were so kindly given to me by thredUp.  If you’ve never heard of it, it’s an awesome online place to shop for major deals on clothes and accessories!  Most prices are up to 90% off retail price, which is perfect for this gift giving season!  The Ann Taylor jacket that I am wearing today only cost me $50 compared to the original price of $228!  Also, I got a great deal on my cable-knit sweater from the Gap, which happened to inspire this ensemble!  I hope that you enjoy my wintery outfit of the day and it sends rays of coziness to you through the screen.

While the exact pieces I discovered on thredUp aren’t available any longer, I did find some pretty similar items for the sweater and coat!  You can also check out thredUp for yourself and find some treasures of your own for this cozy weather!  They have a huge assortment of clothes to choose from and you can specify what condition you’d prefer.  Both items I received were brand new with the tags attached!  It’s a great website if you like quality, name brand clothes with better prices. On top of all that, they’re a brand that’s great for the environment since they’ve upcycled 12 million items and saved them from going into the trash!

affordable makeup for oily skin

Affordable Matte Skin: My Top 3 Drugstore Picks

Hey there, beauties!

I don’t know about you, but for me the struggle of the oily T-zone is real.  I always am on the lookout for products to reduce and prevent shine so I don’t end up looking like a disco ball by the end of the day.  Don’t get me wrong, I love having a glow to my skin, but without products that combat shine, I pass the point of glowing to instead blinding everyone around me with the powers of my radiating complexion… not to mention that having oily skin makes it extremely difficult for foundation to last longer than an hour without melting off of my face.  If you suffer similar oily skin probz or if you just enjoy that shine-free 90’s look, I hope that my top 3 drugstore picks will be your oily skin saviors (without breaking the bank)!

affordable makeup for oily skin
In order to achieve a matte and poreless complexion, priming is a really helpful step to take. When I forget to prime my skin, I feel like I can visibly see the foundation disappearing into thin air within minutes of putting it on.  Recently, I discovered  No7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Base, which is absolutely AMAZING at taking away any trace of a fraction of shine.  When I first tried this out, I was terrified by the almost chemical scent that it has, but when applied, it is not strong or overpowering at all -in fact, I couldn’t even tell that it had a scent once it was on my face.  The second this primer touches your skin, it’s as if the shine and oils are literally zapped out of existence in front of your eyes.  I find that I need more to use more of this product than I do with the typical primer since it is so tacky and doesn’t spread a long ways.  The upside to that fact is the tackiness makes foundation stay.  It keeps my face shine-free and my foundation doesn’t move a centimeter.  I highly recommend this product if you’ve been wanting to try a mattifying primer.  I even believe that this product is better than Benefit’s Porefessional… that’s a high compliment coming from a girl who went through many, many tubes of it!  A huge plus is the price is just $12.99!IMG_2010 (2)

The next product I love for mattifying my foundation is Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder in Transparent. This powder is definitely worth all of the rave that it has received.  At only $4.99, this product is sent from the heavens and is one of my favorite pressed powders I’ve ever tried -including high end options!  For me, powder is a must when it comes to makeup unless I want my makeup to vanish in an hour after applying it.  I highly recommend this powder as my life wouldn’t be complete without it!

IMG_1995 (1)

Lastly, e.l.f. High Definition Powder is another great option for your mattifying needs.  This loose powder comes in three shades: corrective, sheer, and shimmer.  The best part?  This product is only $6.00! *angels singing* I thought I was buying sheer when I made this purchase, but bought shimmer instead.  However, this mistake turned out to be a good one, because I think that this product is great!  It doesn’t leave my makeup looking cake-y and let’s me have a little more of a glow on those days where I want my skin to have some life to it.  It still keeps my makeup in place and takes away the shine on my T-zone, but gives me just the slightest bit of shimmer.  This powder is the perfect option if you want something to eliminate the potential oil slick that can happen on your face, but still give you just a tad bit of controlled glow.

A Matte Lip That Isn’t Drying: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Review

Hey there, lovelies!

Matte lips are all the rage nowadays.  I love them, but the problem is that even the most high end matte products tend to make my lips look awful and chapped.  They always intensify any lip troubles I am having instead of making me look like Kylie Jenner.  On top of that, I usually find them uncomfortable to wear on an everyday basis.  HOWEVER, I am excited to announce that I’ve finally discovered a matte product that works for me: *drum roll* NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream!

NYX soft matte lip cream review NYX soft matte lip cream review

The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream definitely deserves all of the rave that it has gotten -Why didn’t I listen to everyone sooner?  I regret each second of my life not spent with these beauties in it.  I now have four shades to tell you all about, so let’s get to the review!

Firstly, these Matte Lip Creams cost $5.99 a pop.  I’ve seen them at Target, Fred Meyer and Ulta.  If you want the widest range of shades to choose from, check out Ulta’s website, because they usually have double the shades which are available at other stores!

They go on extremely smoothly and evenly.  They smell nice and sweet, but not overwhelmingly strong. The applicator is your typical doe foot, but it’s the consistency of the product itself that really impresses me.  When you apply this cream, it gives your lips the most sharp, crisp, and clean edge!  Since these aren’t a liquid, I find them much easier to handle and get the perfect application.  I’m just too clumsy for liquid lipstick -one shake of the hand and your lips are screwed!  With these creams, I have much more control and my lips come out looking much nicer!

The finish is on the matte side, but I find that they don’t dry down as much as your typical liquid lipstick.  They still let your lips breath instead of feeling like they are encased in pavement.  Also, they last pretty well when eating and drinking, although they don’t have the lasting power of liquid lipsticks.

Let’s begin the swatches with my favorite of the bunch –Copenhagen!  Normally, I never go for deep or dark colors, so I was shocked at how much I loved this shade when I first put it on!  The first thing I noticed was just how evenly the color was applied.  Typically with these deep berry shades, I notice at least a bit of unevenness in color, but this goes on perfectly!  I am obsessed.

NYX soft matte lip cream copenhagen swatch NYX soft matte lip cream copenhagen NYX soft matte lip cream copenhagen

Next up, we have Antwerp, which is a coral/pink shade.  I think this color would be absolutely perfect for spring and summer, however it is a bit bright for my taste. I think the shade is gorgeous, but I’ll probably hold off on wearing it until the warmer months roll around again.

NYX soft matte lip cream antwerp swatch NYX soft matte lip cream antwerp NYX soft matte lip cream antwerp

Milan is a beautiful pink shade.  I was expecting this one to be more on the nude side of things based off of the packaging, however it’s actually pretty bright.  I think that shade is gorgeous and it’s super pigmented, but again, I’ll probably reach for this more when things warm up a bit.

Last, but most definitely not least, is Istanbul.  This shade is a nude pink. It’s super natural and isn’t too light that it makes you look washed out.  I think this shade is perfect for everyday wear and I know I’ll be reaching for this one a lot!

Thanks so much for reading!  Have you tried NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams yet?  Do you know of any other matter lip products that still look great on dry skin?
